American Canoe Association Level 1/2 Standup Paddleboarding Instructor Certification Workshop

DATES:  February 27th - March 1st, 2015 (3 days)

COST:  $399 per person

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  This ACA Level 1/2 SUP Instructor Certification Workshop (ICW) will help you develop the refined skill and understanding to teach others to standup paddle safely & effectively.  This intensive three-day course is a fast paced workshop designed to familiarize you with the processes and curriculum of the American Canoe Association including teaching theory, learning theory, leadership, paddling concepts, trip planning & more.  This course is suited for those that teach SUP now, plan to teach in the future or just want the training.  Candidates taking this course should arrive with fundamental standup paddling skills & experience.  It is unrealistic to become certified after 3 days of training without prior skill & experience.  Day one will focus on technical skills - strokes, maneuvers, paddling theory, what to teach & how to teach it.  Day two will continue on teaching theory and day three will encompass group management & leadership. 

PRE-REQUISITES:  first Aid & CPR certification, 18 years of age or older, ACA membership

COURSE FORMAT:  The course will begin at 8am each morning & includes a combination of classroom and water time.  Attendance alone does not guarantee certification.  During the ICW, candidates will be assessed on their personal paddling skills, teaching skills, communication, demonstration skills, leadership & technical knowledge.  If certified, candidates are required to join the ACA Safety Education & Instruction Council for $25/year (in addition to normal ACA membership dues).  

EQUIPMENT:  Equipment can be provided upon request at no extra charge.  Minimum required equipment is as follows:  SUP, paddle, pfd, leash, proper clothing.  Participants must be dressed for immersion each day.
